How to repair or reset the Teams app
Repair fixes the app files and keeps your settings. Reset also deletes the local app data and signs you out. Try Repair first.
Not every installation has these buttons: they exist for the Store-type installation of the new Teams on Windows. On a Mac and for other installation types, delete and reinstall Teams instead. Your chats and files stay in your Microsoft 365 account.
Windows: repair
- Quit Teams (taskbar icon › Quit).
- Open Settings › Apps › Installed apps (Windows 10: Apps & features). The old “Programs and Features” list in the Control Panel offers no reset.
- Find “Microsoft Teams”, click ⋯ (Windows 10: click the app) › Advanced options.
- Under “Repair” click Repair, then start Teams.
Windows: reset
- Open the same place: Advanced options of “Microsoft Teams”.
- Under “Reset” click Reset and confirm. The local app data and settings are deleted.
- Start Teams and sign in again.
No Repair or Reset button?
- The options depend on how Teams was installed. They are missing for some installations, for example ones set up by your company.
- Continue with the next fix: delete the cache, or uninstall Teams and install it again from microsoft.com/teams.
- On a company computer ask IT before you uninstall.
Mac
- There is no reset on a Mac.
- Quit Teams and delete the cache (see the guide on deleting the Teams cache).
- Still broken? Move Teams from the Applications folder to the Bin and install it again from microsoft.com/teams.
Still not starting? Send the summary to your IT department.
