How to delete the Teams cache

The cache holds temporary copies of Teams data on your computer. If it gets damaged, chats and channels can load incompletely or not at all. Deleting it is safe: Teams builds it again on the next start.

Your chats and files stay in your Microsoft 365 account. You may have to sign in again, and the first start takes longer. Quit Teams completely first.

Windows (new Teams)

  1. Quit Teams: right-click its icon in the taskbar notification area › Quit.
  2. Press the Windows key + R, paste this path and press Enter: %userprofile%\appdata\local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams
  3. Select everything in the folder that opens and delete it.
  4. Start Teams again and sign in if asked.

Mac (new Teams)

  1. Quit Teams: right-click its Dock icon › Quit (or Command + Q).
  2. In Finder choose Go › Go to Folder…, enter ~/Library/Containers and move the folder “com.microsoft.teams2” to the Bin.
  3. Choose Go › Go to Folder… again, enter ~/Library/Group Containers and move the folder “UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams” to the Bin.
  4. Start Teams again and sign in if asked.

Teams in the browser

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete (Mac: Command + Shift + Delete).
  2. Choose “Cached images and files” and the time range “All time”, then click Delete. This affects all websites.
  3. Open teams.microsoft.com again and sign in.

The folder does not exist?

  1. Teams may be installed another way, or you still use the classic Teams app. Classic Teams is no longer supported: install the new Teams.
  2. Alternatively reset the app, which also removes the local data (see the guide on repairing or resetting Teams).

Still not working? Reset the app or ask your IT department.
